The second Arizona (Battleship No. 39) was laid down on 16 March 1914 at the New York Navy Yard; launched on 19 June 1915; sponsored by Miss Esther Ross, daughter of a prominent Arizona pioneer citizen, Mr. W. Francis Compton Denebrink was born June 22, 1896, in Chicago, Ill. He received his commission as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1917, and graduated from the Naval War College in 1932. He advanced to the rank of rear admiral in April 1944, then to vice admiral in December 1952. Denebrink died on April 8, 1987, in San Francisco, California.
